The Child Trust Fund

Administered by an approved financial institution (Child Trust Fund provider) of your choosing, the Child Trust Fund is essentially a tax-free long term savings and investment account. Use our comprehensive list of Child Trust Fund providers to view their current offers.

Opening a Child Trust Fund account is easy once you have claimed and are in receipt of Child Benefit (if you have not yet applied for Child Benefit you can download the form here ) as the £250 Child Trust Fund voucher and information booklet is automatically sent by the government.

If you are receiving Child Tax Credit and your family income is at or below £15,575 (2008/09) an additional payment of up to £250 will be paid directly into your child's Child Trust Fund account by the government. (Tax Credits helpline 0845 300 3900)

Once opened, parents, friends and family members can all contribute to your child's Child Trust Fund account via regular, ad-hoc or lump sum payments up to a maximum of £1200 per annum.

Around your child's seventh birthday the government will also make an additional payment of £250 (£500 for families on low income) direct into the Child Trust Fund account.

Don't delay, use your Child Trust Fund voucher and start investing for your child's future, today!
